Earlier this year I went to be assessed by Katie McLernon for a long-term, painful and frustrating left knee problem. I was waiting for an MRI scan so that I could decide what (and what not) to do in terms of future sport and exercise. I was impressed by Katie’s thorough and rapid assessment of the potential root problems and her recommendations for treatment. For example, she quickly identified a pretty redundant set of glutes that I wasn’t getting the most from. Over a couple of months we have been working together using a combination of exercises, including pilates based ones, massage and acupuncture. I am now enjoying more frequent exercise and sport. I’m still waiting to have the MRI.
A few weeks after my initial appointment I arrived at the Centre in St Mary’s Street with another long term but less frequent problem, acute lower back pain. I had a muscle spasm simply bending to put a plug in a socket the day before and had been pretty much unable to walk or sleep for 24 hours. I have had lower back problems for forty years but after two sessions of treatment, again using a mixture of traditional physiotherapy treatment and acupuncture, was able to move fairly freely again.
I now have a bespoke exercise programme (and lots of additional advice) aimed at enabling me to enjoy a wide variety of exercise and sport again. I also know more clearly what is good and bad for me and also, that when I need some top up therapy, Katie will efficiently and effectively work out what treatment I am likely to benefit from.
